Etna 3000 Meters Excursion: The Volcano's Summit
Our Etna 3000 meters excursion takes you to discover the summit of Europe's highest active volcano. Starting from Piano Provenzana, we will reach 3000 meters through a unique route that combines 4x4 off-road and panoramic trekking.
The Route to Etna's 3000 Meters
From Piano Provenzana we begin our Etna 3000 meters excursion by traveling with off-road vehicles along a high mountain track that crosses the suggestive expanses of lava and volcanic sand formed during the 2002 eruption. During the ascent we will stop to explore on foot the buttonhole of the 2002 craters, direct testimony to volcanic power.
Continuing our Etna 3000 meters excursion with off-road vehicles up to 2840 meters altitude, we will reach the Pizzi Deneri volcanological observatory. From this strategic point begins the most exciting part: the 300-meter ascent on foot along a path surrounded by volcanic slag and lava bombs, until reaching the panoramic point at 3000 meters altitude.
The View from Etna's 3000 Meters
Arrived at Etna's 3000 meters, the breathtaking panorama embraces the Gulf of Taormina, the Bay of Naxos, the Strait of Messina, Calabria, and the Nebrodi mountain range. From this privileged height you can admire the majesty of the summit craters North East (3327 meters) and South East (3294 meters), as well as the imposing Valle del Leone and Valle del Bove.
The tour ends by crossing Piano delle Concazze and descending to Piano Provenzana, thus completing our Etna 3000 meters excursion.
